Family Feud season six

I haven't been watching faithfully, but I have been watching it occasionally. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong...

But it seems that this season, whenever one family grabs a lot of points from the first two questions, the third question (the one where the points are doubled) has a terribly small total number of points that will just barely keep the leading family from reaching 300.

If that's the case, doesn't that defeat nearly the entire purpose of playing to a fixed amount?

Probably trying to avoid having to "kill time" like they did last season, several times the game was won after only 3 rounds.

So basically, they've altered the game because Karn's inept.

And they wonder why ratings are bad...

They didn't do anything because "Karn's inept". It really has nothing to do with him. If a  family got the 300 in the first 3 rounds, they had a bunch of time to kill at the end so what else are they supposed to do? Seems to me that they're just trying to avoid showing "best of" moments at the end of a show.

Oh, and ratings aren't that bad........ Karn is scoring better than Louie ddi

In some markets, Sermonette is doing better that Louie did.
I do miss those long, slow credit rolls with that awesome music looped about five times, but I will survive. Richard Karn is terrific, we've got returning champions (wish there was no limit, but I can deal with it) and it's a good non-backstabbing show.

Back when Ray Combs hosted the show, there were times when a game would end in three rounds.  It's funny how he never seemed to have trouble with the extra time gained, and he even had more actual show time (less commercial time) to deal with then!

On a similar subject, it seems theoretically possible that one team could win the first four rounds and still not win the game.  If that were to happen, it's possible that, even after the tiebreaker, if the team at $0 won the question, they would still not have a winner.  Would they just go to a second tiebreaker, or would they dig up a survey where all 100 people answered the same way to avoid a second tiebreaker?

Which always makes me wonder..Do you think if they kept Louie, while all these changes were made, that the show would still have lasted this long? I have nothing against Richard, I like him, in fact he kinda reminds me of Ray Combs a little bit.

But I liked Louie too, he really wasn't THAT bad. There were some things I liked about for instance, IMO he did the "small talk" with the contestants very well and I liked his fast money "antics", such as having the family "going up to touch the board"

Off Topic: Was the board on Louie's set bigger than it is now?

There's not much they could've done--Louie's personal problems were looming too large (pun not intended) for him to be kept around.  They were just lucky that Karn has proven to be at least competent at the show and that enough people seem to like him that the ratings have improved.

I do wish he'd cease and desist with the use of the phrase "first blood". However, that's not nearly as bad as Jack Barry's use of "a leg up" on The Joker's Wild. I saw this and have it on tape from the late 1970s:
For the champion's first question, Jack said, "Answer correctly and you'll have a leg up".
For the champion's second question, Jack said, "Answer correctly and you'll have two legs up".
And (so help me) for the champion's third question in that game, Jack said, "Answer correctly and you'll have three legs up".
He dispensed with the adding of the extra limbs beginning with the fourth round.

Karn's OK...until they could get Marco Antonio Regil over here too ;-)  (I *think* he's bilingual, anyone care to deny or confirm?)
I'm a pacifist, and even I would like to see a little more action.

Personally I like Louie way better than Karn. He just tries too hard, imo.

My fault with Karn is that he seems to try too hard - it doesn't come naturally.  But he has improved a fair bit since he took over.

Just wondering does the host actually know the survey answers? They seem surprised sometimes when they seem then as they're displayed, but its way too common that they know exactly when the 3rd strike is about to happen. I have noticed this on Karn's version, that you can tell that the third strike is about to show, even if it is a good answer given. I have not seen an instance where a short speech was given just before the third strike. I havent seen much nor remember past versions very well so i cant remember if it was done on these too. (dont get GSN) I've seen a few recently of Dawson, but didnt notice.

The reason you hardly ever see short speeches before the 3rd strike, is because the host is explaining what will happen depending on if the answer given comes up or not.
